We offer a monthly program for the general public. These programs have a specific theme for the evening as well as a period for investigating the seasonal constellations and planets.
Public programs are held the third Sunday and fourth Thursday of each month. Next showing is Sunday, June 22 at 2 pm and Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 7 pm. The program will be "Planet Patrol".

Planet Patrol

Join Sam Snork, P.I. (Planetary Investigator) and his assistant Elmo as they try to find the source of disturbing radio emissions. Sam and Elmo explore each planet in our solar system from the frozen planet Pluto to the rock world of Mercury to the beauty of ringed Saturn. They cruise for clues, look for leads, and use the latest in crime-solving equipment to investigate the planets in our solar system and find out what makes the Earth so special.

Drake Planetarium is now open for the public one evening a month, offering fascinating glimpses into the wonderful world of astronomy and space science. Each monthly program is divided into two parts:
- The first section covers a particular topic of interest, for example, the Mars Lander, asteroids and near Earth collisions, the International Space Station, and the like.
- The second part is always an introduction into the nighttime sky. Each person is given a free sky chart.
After learning how to use it, they are then taught to recognize the major constellations and planets visible at that season of the year
